World Meeting of Disabilities Convenes in Ecuador

Ecuador’s Technical Secretariat of Disability hosted the first World Meeting of Disabilities. Drawing experts from around the world, the conference featured presentations, roundtables and panels on policies, programs, projects and technological innovations and implementations that can advance the rights of persons with disabilities.

The GUDC representative in Ecuador, María Teresa Donoso, participated in the World Meeting of Disabilities, organized by the SETEDIS Disability Technical Secretary in Guayaquil, giving information about GUDC and how the UD standards were developed. Ecuador will be the first country to adapt the GUDC standards as part of the country's accesibility norms in 2014

The World Encounter on Disability, Ecuador 2013, was a success. During the two days more than six thousand people attended. Maria Teresa's presentation was a very valuable contribution and highlighted the leadership Ecuador has in universal design, thanks to her leadership and the cooperation of the Universal Design Commission.

The more than a hundred experts from all over the world and Ecuador had the opportunity to exchange views, information and good practices on a wide range of disability issues. Wonderful event!
