Global Universal Design Commission (GUDC) board member Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D., CEO and Founder of Rossetti Enterprises LLC, recently joined WOSU 89.7 NPR News to discuss the growing need for accessible housing and the important role universal design can play in creating homes that work for people of all ages and abilities.
Rosemarie appeared on the August 5 episode of All Sides with Amy Juravich alongside Gretchen Roginson, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty, and Trey Addison, Interim Executive Director of The Ohio State University Center for Real Estate. The conversation explored whether the Columbus housing market is keeping pace with the demand for accessible housing. During the interview, Rossetti shared the story behind her home, the Universal Design Living Laboratory, recognized as one of the most universally designed and accessible homes in North America. She discussed many of the universal design features and products incorporated throughout the home and explained how thoughtful design can make residential spaces safer, more comfortable, and more functional for people of all ages and abilities. The discussion also highlighted the broader importance of accessible housing as the population ages and more people choose to remain in their homes as they grow older. Universal design extends beyond meeting the needs of people with disabilities—it creates environments that can benefit everyone throughout different stages of life.
